After winning the Catalan Cup last night in Spain many will agree with me that the year 2013 has started on a very bright note for the Eagles. Although it might not be the Cup millions of fans around the nation are craving for but holding a star studded team with the likes of Xabi Hernandez, Gerrad Pique, Bojan, Tello, Puyol and a host of other Spanish league stars is something we should be proud of. A Sergio Gonzalez converted spot kick early in the 7th minute gave the hosts the lead before US-based striker Bright Dike got the Super Eagles an equaliser in the 55th minute. Nigeria won Catalan trophy on Away goal rule. Hugo Alvares, one of d organizers of the tie says "As the away team their goal counted double"
The average Nigerian team performance is fantastic and the home based players gave a good account of themselves. With this kind of performance and a little bit of attacking prowess/brilliance i really do think we will win the Nations Cup.
However, the gaffer, Steven Keshi on a telephone conversation hailed his team for holding their own against a star studded Catalunya team and has promised Nigerians of better performance in the next tie against Cape Verde.
"Keshi: It was a great game. I must commend the players because they played to instructions. The purpose of this friendly was to try out some formations and tactics and not to win at all cost, but knowing the pedigree and quality of our opponents and so the boys gave their all and I must commend them for this and also Nigerians for their prayers."
Goo Goo Goo SUPER EAGLES!!!!!
